High above the ground, where sunbeams slip through the misty green leaves, a whole wonderful world is waiting. Turn the page and let us explore the rainforest together.
The toucan's beak is so big that it can be four times the size of its head and nearly as long as its whole body. Even so, the bird holds it up with ease. It is one of the most colorful beaks in the entire rainforest.
A waterfall often begins where a river flows over two kinds of rock, one soft and one hard. The soft rock slowly wears away, leaving a hard ledge for the water to tumble over. Little by little, over a very long time, the leaping water shapes the waterfall you see today.
This little frog is truly tiny, often only about the size of a gumdrop, or roughly one inch long. Some kinds are even smaller than that. It can sit happily on a single wet leaf with room to spare.
The howler monkey has one of the loudest voices of any animal on land. When it calls out, the deep whooping sound can travel about three miles through the forest. That is a bit like hearing a friend from right across a whole town.
